Analysis of questionnaire results
The most popular option chosen my questionnaire, as seen from this picture, is 'Indie'. This could be because the term 'Indie' covers many different types of music.
Below this photo, is a break down of the results. This result shows that 'Indie' is one of the most popular music genre on the market at this current moment.

This was the second question on my questionnaire. The result of this question is definitely clear, that people are listening to and watching music videos on youtube. This shows that the idea of music channels and even buying music videos on sites like Itunes or other sites are now seen as unfashionable or that people are unwilling to buy music videos anymore. This question was "What is your gender?" The most popular answer was "female". I was expecting more of an equal response to this question, I thought both genders would take my survey. I asked this question so that I would know what gender was most interested in music.

This question was "Why do you watch music videos?' The answer of this question turned out to be pretty even with all the options. However, the most popular answer is for the individual to show their favourite band/artist support through giving them views by watching their music video.
This question was "What do you like to see in a music video?" The most popular result, by a landslide was that the audience would want to see a narrative video, to help explain the lyrics. My idea for my music video is actually a narrative video according to my treatment.
This question was 'How often do you watch a music video?" The most popular answer was "everyday". I expected this answer, because as I personally, watch music videos around everyday. I asked this question because I wanted to find out how interested people were in music.
This question was 'What is your favourite band/artist?' I asked this question in order to find out what peoples favourite band/artists are, and to see if it matched up with their favourite genre of music which was a previous question. I also asked this question out of interest because I wanted to see if the artist I am making my video based around would come up.

How do all these music videos differ?
All the music videos I have analysed are to promote the artist and their music. Also, they are all of a similar, 'Indie' genre because that is what I am basing my own music video on.
The first video I did was 'Sweater Weather', this is very generic compared to the other video's I have analysed. However what makes it different to the others is the ending of it. Closer to finish of the video, the camera angle turns upside down and their logo appears, however you wouldn't necessarily know it was their logo unless you were a fan. This technique is not something I have found in many music videos.
The second video I did was 'Breeze blocks'. The reason I choose this video was because of how unique it was. The whole video is filmed backwards, and I have not seen any other video do this. By showing the audience the ending before the beginning, it makes them want to watch the rest of the video.
The third video I analysed was 'Zombie'. The reason I choose this video was because it was different yet similar to other music videos. It appears to be an average performance video until the, much the lyrics, the band members begin to turn into zombies. This video is like any other performance music video, but with it very own unique twist.
The fourth video I analysed was 'Now' . This is one of my favourite music videos because I like the concept behind it and I am even using the idea of throwing powder paint in my own music video. This video is different to the other videos I have analysed because it have a strong key narrative that love conquers all.
And the final video I analysed was 'Riptide'. I did this video because this is the actual song I have chosen to use for my music video, and I wanted to analysis it to compare to my own video when I have made it. Although I love this song, the music video is not my favourite because I don't like the way it depicts exactly what the lyrics is saying. However,I do like the use of retro clothing as it adds to the 'Indie' feeling.

Vance Joy - 'Riptide' Official Video
This the song I have chosen to do for my music video.
Narrative behind the video:
Vance Joy himself wrote the lyrics to the song 'Riptide'. The word 'Riptide' actually means a tide in the sea that pulls everything in, it happens around every five years in America and kills around 200-500 people every time. Vance Joy uses the word 'Riptide' as a metaphor for fame. He is basically saying that people see being famous as fun from the outside, but then gradually get sucked in by it. This is reflected in the lyric of the song when it says 'all my friends are turning green', which could mean they are turning green because they are jealous of other famous people or, as the video depicts, they are turning green because they are becoming obsessed with money and becoming famous.
What's its purpose?
The purpose of any music video is to promote the singer/band. In this music video, Vance Joy is in it briefly but only if you are a massive fan of his would you notice him. As just a viewer, he is not seen and therefore this video is very narrative, just showing images of what the song is saying. However, the style of the photos give the sense of retro and vintage.
How do they objectify women/men?
This video has little reference to objectifying men or women however in one section of the video, a woman is seen to be taking her bathing suit off and shows women as these mystical creatures. This is reflected by the line in the song, 'I was scared of pretty girls'.
How is the star objectified?
The star of this song, Vance Joy is not actually in it. The video is narrative video and depicts what the song is saying.
How do they reflect their genre?
The genre of Vance Joy's music would be Indie, and I think this is portrayed in this video by the use of the retro images in the music video. The use of the women's costumes in the this video is used to portray a retro, old timey feeling.
Does this music fit the criteria of a successful music video?
Although I love this song, the music video is not one of my favourites.I like the idea of the retro clothing, and I will be using this idea in my own video. But I don't like the narrative of the video, although the meaning behind it is really good.

Paramore: Now [OFFICIAL VIDEO]
Narrative behind the video:
This video is set in a war zone. The main character is the lead singer in the band, and is made to stand out against all the other soldiers because she is wearing white, which could symbolise her being pure and non violent, compared to the others around her wearing black. She manages some how to escape through the war without getting killed, and reaches the leader. She hugs the leader in the end and that ends the war. In my opinion, the message behind this video is that being nice towards other people could change certain events. That love conquers all evils, and that no-one is evil by choice.
What is it's purpose?
This video is purely narrative, without any performance in it. It is clear to see who the lead singer is because they are the main character within the video. The other band members are in it, but are seen not as often and when they are, they are trying to save the protagonist. This could be reinforcing the classic band stereotype, that the lead singer is the most important. This video is the advertise the band more than anything. They aren't shown playing any instruments, so their skill is not seen.
How do they objectify women/men?
There are both men and women in this video, however I don't feel either genre is necessarily objectified. The woman is seen as being saved once in this video by a male, however she escapes from the clutches of other people later on in the video, which shows that she isn't week. The other soldiers in this video are all masked, so it's not clear what gender they are. However, I think this is done on purpose, so not to show a gender as more dominant than another. The leader in this video is man, but is then 'defeated' by a woman.
How are the stars objectified?
The star in this music video is the woman, Haley Williams. She is made out to be a fighter and to be winning a war against evil.
How do they reflect their genre?
With Haley's red hair, she is very recognisable when it comes to the music business. Paramore's overall music genre would be Indie rock. In my own opinion, I think they present their music as Indie, by the clothing being flowy and loose fitting, also with the whole idea of winning war with a hug, this reminds me of a hippy 'flower power' time.
Does this video fit the criteria of a successful music video?
I like this video a lot. I love the narrative behind it, because its such a different idea. Most of the music videos I was originally thinking of analysing where about love or something similar whereas this one is has a slight twist to it. From a technical point of view, I think it is a successful music video as well because as the music in the video gets to the ending and gets softer so the action in the video.
